While our client’s furry friends may have come from a breeder, a family friend, or found wandering down the road, many people find their pets at rescue facilities around the country. These rescue facilities are dedicated to rescuing, re-homing, and rehabilitating animals who’ve been neglected, abused, abandoned, or otherwise. Not only do they provide a safe environment for animals while they’re waiting for their forever home, but they play a critical role in reducing the amount of homeless and euthanized pets.
The Upstate of South Carolina is home to multiple great places to find your new friend, volunteer, or work. Here are some of our favorites.
Greenville Humane Society
One of the most popular and well-loved pet rescues is the Greenville Humane Society located off of Airport Rd. With a mission to “preserve the lives and enhance the well-being of animals”, they’ve taken huge strides to do just that. In 2022 alone, over 4,500 animals found their forever homes and over 2,000 animals were treated for illness or injury.
The good they do in the community is clear by their care and love for animals!
Greenville Animal Care
With a dedicated and loving staff, Greenville County Animal Care believes in the compassionate treatment of all animals in the community. Currently, they have the largest, most diverse selection of adoptable pets in the Upstate and as of 2022 have continued to strengthen their community.
They are the largest open-admission animal facility in South Carolina able to care for approximately 400 dogs and cats.
Lucky Pup Rescue
Their mission is to save homeless dogs in the South by rescuing, fostering, and adopting! Lucky Pup Rescue is a dog exclusive pet rescue who have enormous hearts for stranded pups.
With an easy adoption process and new dogs being posted regularly on their Instagram page, Lucky Pup knows a thing or two about finding a perfect match. They offer a doggy day out so you can get to know a pup before adoption. Take them on an adventure, hiking, around the town, or however you’d like to spend time so you can see their unique personality.
Foster Paws
They’re the cat’s meow! Foster Paws is a feline exclusive rescue who leans on the support of their foster families and volunteers. They’re a 501c3 charitable nonprofit organization and work to find homes for abandoned or neglected cats and kittens in the Upstate.
Started in 2010, Foster Paws was founded by two friends who had a vision for a no-kill community. Together, they paved the road to a successful rescue which operates on an open adoption policy and donation based adoptions.
Carolina Poodle Rescue
Carolina Poodle Rescue is a no-kill / limited entry private rescue group. They believe and support the Save Them All and spay / neuter initiatives. Carolina Poodle Rescue refers to the nonprofit rescue organization and Dreamweaver Farm is the physical location where the dogs reside. They are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit.
All animals adopted from Carolina Poodle are spayed or neutered before being placed. They provide sanctuary and rehabilitation and, when the right home comes along, rehome poodles, poodle mixes and other needy small dogs. They maintain a waiting list of homes and most of our animals are placed from this list. Their efforts are funded solely through adoption fees and donations.
Auction for A Kaws
Auction for a Kaws is a non-profit organization with a focus on saving and protecting animals facing euthanasia, abandonment, disaster, or life as a stray. With love, commitment, and public education, we strive to give animals a renewed life with the protection & care they deserve.
No matter where your next furry friend comes from, we know in the Upstate there are plenty of options to meet, play & get to know your new bestie!
